About me

Thanks for visiting Hope Fitzgerald Photography & Video. I’ve worked as a photographer in Faversham since 2001, initially providing portraiture to other young families when my own children were very young. My first advert for Photographic Services was in the autumn edition of my local NCT magazine!

Changes from film to digital photography coincided with MA Fine Art study, completed with Distinction in 2009. Making use of the facilities at UCA Canterbury, I began working with video alongside my studies, and my first completed one-minute film, 30 Books, was selected for the Whitstable Biennale 2008. I was hooked on improving my work with moving image.

After three years of combining freelance and part time work with Moving Image Degree students, and completing PGCE study, I moved exclusively to freelance work in Photography and Video. Being independent allows for a perfect mix of people, still and moving imagery, editing, and education work, calling on the varied skill base developed since my first roll of film in my first camera at 17 years old. Working with the talented people in my community is a joy, and making images of people in important moments continues to capture my attention, whether for private clients or organisations.

Feedback from previous clients:

Wedding couple Cameron and Louisa:

“From our first meeting with Hope, we were touched by her friendliness, advice and understanding of our situation. All of the pre-wedding planning with Hope was simple and straightforward. It was also obvious that Hope was very excited for us and the ideas we had for the day to capture key moments at the church and to incorporate an old Routemaster bus, a county cricket pitch, walking through woods in wellies and in the gardens of Lees Court, Sheldwich. Hope was thorough in her preparation and liaised directly with the vicar for access to the church to plan the photos. On the day, Hope was very discreet and aside from the formal family photos, we hardly noticed her hovering around getting the best angles and impromptu photos of our guests. Her post-production has been fantastic with a range of black and white, colour and artistic-expression shots. I highly recommend Hope for her wedding photography services as she brilliantly captured our special day into lasting memories.”

Lucy Medhurst as Director,  Stour Valley Arts

I have worked with Hope for over three years as photographer, film maker and documenter of Stour Valley Arts’ education projects. Hope has produced wonderful films that manage to really capture the value of our education activities using great editing and “talking heads” footage of children and young people. The resulting work has been a powerful advocacy tool and communicates perfectly the impact of the work we do. Hope is a highly skilled and very intelligent colleague and she is quick to get to the heart of a brief. She delivers on time and on budget. I can wholeheartedly recommend her work.
